After a break and as the summer holiday heads toward the all-important autumn term, this course is an opportunity to evaluate current levels of attainment and skills, identify strengths and needs and target gaps. Each day begins with confidence and mindset work, the cumulative effect of these short, focused activities build as the week goes on. They establish a positive and powerful foundation ready to introduce the academic sessions, the threads of which are weaved throughout all teaching and learning of each day. A ‘can do’ attitude to embrace challenge and create the most progress without limit. The intention is to instil skills to help manage the examination process and beyond. The English classes are focused on Comprehension skills working through the text, question types and structuring answers with precision. Exam techniques - question analysis skills and giving answers appropriate detail for the marks available. Also, a multiple choice style paper. Writing skills – learn how to plan a narrative and use literary devices in descriptive writing, delivering a method that meets the examiner’s mark scheme. Following the examinations, many students have received letters from next schools commending their writing. Vocabulary – developing a rich bank of words and using them in context. Punctuation and Grammar. Dictation – attention to handwriting and application of spelling and grammar rules and proofreading for accuracy. Every day ends working metacognitively to audit learning, goals and effort. All material is original and cannot be purchased. Papers will not be repeated in any other courses.
