Each day begins with confidence and mindset work, a focused activity that strengthens as the week goes on. This short daily starter establishes a positive and powerful foundation ready to introduce the academic sessions, the threads of which are weaved throughout all teaching and learning each day. A ‘can do’ attitude to embrace challenge and create the most progress without limit. The intention is to instil skills to help manage the examination process and beyond. The English classes are focused on Comprehension skills working in granular detail through the text, deep analysis and annotation skills, a variety of question types and structuring answers with precision (PETEE). Meticulous in making a clear point, choosing appropriate evidence, naming the technique and explaining the effect. Writing skills are linked to the comprehension work so that children understand the relationship – often thought of as separate skills. We identify and use the literary devices in descriptive writing, delivering a method that meets the examiner’s mark scheme. Following the examinations, many students have received letters from next schools commending their writing. Poetry analysis and writing. Vocabulary – developing a rich bank of words and using them in context. Maths sessions target a specific area of the 10+ curriculum each day. Topics such as number, fractions, decimals, percentages, sequences, ratio, place value, calculations, solving problems, patterns, explaining methods and reasoning, data handling, measure, shape and space. Exam techniques. Every day ends working metacognitively to audit learning, goals and effort. All material is original and cannot be purchased. Papers will not be repeated in any other courses.
