With the end of Year 4, we look forward to the first of four in-person summer courses. Ready to maximise the time and build towards the autumn term? This summer course offers an invaluable opportunity to sharpen academic focus and gain confidence ahead of the new school year. Held at our prestigious Pont Street venue in Knightsbridge, this five-day, 20-hour programme blends exam preparation with growth mindset work to lay the groundwork for 10+ success. Each day begins with confidence and mindset work, a focused activity that strengthens as the week goes on. This short daily starter establishes a positive and powerful foundation ready to introduce the academic sessions, the threads of which are weaved throughout all teaching and learning each day. A ‘can do’ attitude to embrace challenge and create the most progress without limit. The intention is to instil skills to help manage the examination process and beyond. The English classes are focused on Comprehension skills working in granular detail through the text, deep analysis and annotation skills, approaching a variety of question types and structuring answers with precision (PETA). Meticulous in making a clear point, choosing appropriate evidence, naming the technique and analysing the effect. Also, multiple choice style comprehension paper to hone those skills required at ISEB, Consortium and schools such as Latymer Upper and City. Writing skills are linked to the comprehension work so that children understand the relationship – often thought of as separate skills. We identify and use the literary devices in descriptive writing, delivering a method that meets the examiner’s mark scheme. Following the examinations, many students have received letters from top-tier next schools commending their writing skills. Persuasive writing skills. Grammar. Vocabulary – developing a rich bank of words and using in context. Verbal Reasoning. Every day ends working metacognitively to audit learning, goals and effort.
