Week Two of the summer courses will achieve academic progress, confidence and clarity by either building on the skills and momentum created in Week One, or as an independent week of teaching and learning. Whether your child joined us for Week One or is starting fresh, this second week of the Fortis in-person 11+ English summer course delivers fresh, exclusive material to support meaningful academic progress. Designed for high-performing Year 5 pupils preparing for competitive school entrance exams, this course hones comprehension, creative and persuasive writing, grammar and verbal reason in a dynamic and structured classroom environment. Each day begins with confidence and mindset work, a focused activity that strengthens as the week goes on. This short daily starter establishes a positive and powerful foundation ready to introduce the academic sessions, the threads of which are weaved throughout all teaching and learning each day. A ‘can do’ attitude to embrace challenge and create the most progress without limit. The intention is to instil skills to help manage the examination process and beyond. The English classes are focused on Comprehension skills working in granular detail through the text, deep analysis and annotation skills, approaching a variety of question types and structuring answers with precision (PETA). Meticulous in making a clear point, choosing appropriate evidence, naming the technique and analysing the effect. Also, multiple choice style comprehension paper to hone those skills required at ISEB, Consortium and schools such as Latymer Upper and City. Writing skills are linked to the comprehension work so that children understand the relationship – often thought of as separate skills. We identify and use the literary devices in descriptive writing, delivering our method that meets the examiner’s mark scheme. Persuasive writing skills. Grammar. Vocabulary – developing a rich bank of words and using them in context. Verbal Reasoning. Every day ends working metacognitively to audit learning, goals and effort.
