An opportunity to evaluate current levels of attainment and skills, identify strengths and needs and drive forward. Each day begins with confidence and mindset work, a focused activity that strengthens throughout the week. This short daily starter establishes a positive and powerful foundation ready to introduce the academic sessions, the threads of which are weaved throughout all teaching and learning each day. A ‘can do’ attitude to embrace challenge and create the most progress without limit. The intention is to instil skills to help manage the examination process and beyond. The English classes are focused on Comprehension skills working in granular detail through the text, deep analysis and annotation skills, a variety of question types and structuring answers with precision. Meticulous in making a clear point, choosing appropriate evidence, naming the technique and analysing the effect (PETA). Writing skills are linked to the comprehension work so that children understand the relationship – typically considered separate entities. Children often struggle with writing skills, and we deliver a method that meets the examiner’s mark scheme. Following the examinations, many students have received letters from top-tier senior schools commending their writing. Vocabulary – developing a rich bank of words and using them in context. Debate work to prepare for personal response questions and persuasive writing. Every day ends working metacognitively to audit learning, goals and effort. All material is original and cannot be purchased. Papers will not be repeated in any other course.
