It is important to develop growth mindset, resilience and confidence alongside literacy skills, as attitude is a key factor in attainment particularly if target schools are competitive. First and foremost, we develop a love of English - this joy and appreciation of literature is important and certainly stands out at interviews. We work on comprehension skills - inference skills, recoognising the techniques authors have used in their work and their impact on the reader, how to phrase answers with clarity and precision. We use a range of texts including poetry.
